Texas A&M Men’s basketball coach Buzz Williams is leaving College Station and heading to College Park.

The best dressed coach in the SEC will now be the best dressed in Big Ten country next season. Buzz Williams will be the next head coach at Maryland, marking the fourth different school he’s been a coach since 2014.

Inside MD Sports’ Jeff Ermann reported that Buzz Williams was “trying to get involved” with the Maryland job if then head coach Kevin Willard were to leave for Villanova.

Those dominoes ultimately ended up falling, and just like the eight seniors the Aggies will have to replace next year, Williams is gone, too. Williams was very vocal throughout the season about the difficulties of roster retention in this current era of college athletics.

Williams has never remained at one school for more than six years — and he’s never departed without it being his decision. Williams has been incredibly successful everywhere he’s been. In his last 17 seasons as a head coach, he has 13 20-win seasons and 11 trips to the NCAA tournament. That also includes two years that were shortened and without a postseason due to Covid. And, just for good measure in the four years his teams didn’t make the NCAA Tournament, they played in the Championship game of the NIT tournament.

Regardless, the Aggies will now have to start a coaching search for a new head coach in a big three sport immediately following being in the postseason.

Here’s a short list of potential candidates whose names have already been linked to the job:
