Florida has found its new defensive backs coach in former Georgia State defensive coordinator Deron Wilson, who returns to Gainesville after previously serving as a quality control analyst with the Gators in 2022, according to GatorsOnline from On3.

Wilson will fill the vacancy that Will Harris left a week ago. Harris, who had previously worked as the LA Chargers secondary coach, accepted a job at Miami as the safeties coach. The Gators pass defense wasn’t exactly stellar in 2024, finishing 11th in the SEC. However, Harris was a key recruiter for Billy Napier’s staff and the Gators already lost one 2026 prospect following his departure.

Wilson is familiar with the Gators program, as he worked alongside cornerbacks coach Corey Raymond as a quality control analyst during the 2022 season. He was also the secondary coach at Arkansas for the past two seasons and helped the Razorbacks defense finish fourth in pass defense and third in interceptions (12) in the SEC for the 2023 season.
