Former five-star wide receiver leaves Texas program

Texas will go into the final month of the season without one of its receivers. Sophomore wideout Johntay Cook is reportedly no longer with the team.
Cook was a five-star prospect and played in both his first two seasons in Austin. However, reports from within the program suggested that the split between Cook and the team had been in the works for some time now.

On the season, Cook had eight catches for 137 yards and two touchdowns. The 6-foot, 185 lbs. sophomore was a member of the 2023 recruiting class. Not only was Cook a five-star, but he was also the No. 3 ranked wide receiver in the entire 2023 class according to the 247Sports Composite.
Cook will redshirt the remainder of the year and enter the transfer portal.
