Former LSU football staffer Charles Baglio dies

Longtime high school football coach and LSU football staff member Charles Baglio has died.
Baglio was involved in an automobile accident in Hammond just after 8:00pm Friday night. According to Louisiana State Police, his Nissan Altima was traveling eastbound on Kohnke Road toward Highway 51 when his car entered the path of and collided with another Nissan. Baglio reportedly exited his vehicle to check on the driver he struck when a 2001 Toyota Tundra traveling southbound on Highway 51 struck Baglio.
He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Baglio won more than 200 games as the head coach at Independence High School for 22 years, reaching two state championship games. He was hired by then head coach Nick Saban in 2002 as Director of External Relations. He served in the role for two decades, continuing under Les Miles and Ed Orgeron. He was a part of three national championship teams with the Tigers.
Baglio graduated from Southeastern University in 1967 with a degree in health and physical education and followed that with a master’s degree from SLU in 1973 in supervision and administration.
