Former Tiger York Cut by Commanders
09/09/2024
A rough Sunday turned into a worse Monday for former LSU kicker Cade York.
After his two misses in Washington’s season opening loss to Tampa Bay, York was released. Washington traded for York during training camp. He had been in his second stint with the Cleveland Browns.
York missed eight kicks with Cleveland his rookie season of 2022 and was released during training camp the following year. He spent time with Tennessee and the Giants last season before rejoining the Browns.
Sunday, York missed his only two tries from 56 and 47 yards. The release means that, because York did not play two games, the Commanders do not owe the Browns a conditional seventh-round pick.
York connected on 82 percent of his kicks at LSU and made a school record 15 kicks from 50 or more yards.
