South Carolina offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains has been hired as head coach at Appalachian State, the school announced Saturday. Loggains has spent the last two seasons with the Gamecocks, and has been an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in college and the NFL for 16 seasons.

Loggains came to Columbia after being the tight ends coach at Arkansas and an offensive coordinator in the NFL wuth the Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, and New York Jets. In 2023, Loggains helped develope Spencer Rattler, who became the first quarterback drafted from South Carolina in 34 years.
South Carolina averaged 31.6 points per game in 2024, which was sixth best in the SEC. They also finished top three in the SEC in rushing yards per game (188.9) and passing yards per attempt (8.6).
This will be Loggains first job as a head coach.
