Guidry to miss time with “non-throwing” injury

Gavin Guidry entered the season as LSU’s most experienced relief pitcher. He’s yet to make an appearance through eight games.
Monday night head coach Jay Johnson confirmed the right hander is dealing with an injury and suggested he shouldn’t miss too much more time.
“Sooner rather than later,” Johnson said. “He probably is not available this weekend. It’s a non-throwing issue. I think we’re on track. We’ve identified what we need to do to get him back out there. I see him available next week some time.”
On Thursday of last week Johnson said Guidry was slated to start the previous day at Nicholls, but that game was rescheduled due to weather.
“He was prepared to pitch last Wednesday,” Johnson said. “Actually woke up on Thursday not feeling great. We think we’ve really pinpointed what it was and anticipate him being ready sometime next week.”
Asked where the issue has arisen, Johnson said “right in the middle of the body.”
Guidry has made 45 appearances over two seasons. His career earned run average is 3.23. He’s converted six saves and recorded the final out of LSU’s 2023 national championship win over Florida.
Though he’s only made one start as a Tiger, Guidry was being evaluated in a group of six to seven more pitchers as candidates to start on the weekends. He was pitching two to three innings stints in the preseason.
LSU returns to action Wednesday night in Arlington against Dallas Baptist.
