Jalen Reed has torn ACL, will miss rest of the season

An early game roar gave way to a hush Tuesday night when LSU junior forward Jalen Reed hit the Pete Maravich Assembly Center floor.
That moment’s fears were realized Wednesday when tests revealed that Reed suffered a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season according to a statement from LSU Head Coach Matt McMahon.
“We are devastated for Jalen as he has worked extremely hard in preparation for his junior year,” the statement said. “He is an absolute joy to coach and earned the role of captain from his teammates. We look forward to a full recovery and continuing his basketball career.”
Reed started all eight games this season and was averaging 12.4 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.
Forwards Corey Chest and Daimion Collins along with senior Derek Fountain are expected to assume the minutes Reed leaves available.
The Tigers are 7-1 and take on Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday.
