John Robinson dies at 89

Legendary coach and college football hall of famer John Robinson died of pneumonia in Baton Rouge on Monday.
Robinson was the head coach of the 1978 USC Trojans team that won the national championship. He won 119 games as a head coach in college and the NFL. His final role in football came as senior consultant to Ed Orgeron at LSU where he was part of the team that roared to a 15-0 season and a national championship in 2019.
Robinson played tight end on Oregon’s 1958 Rose Bowl team. He began coaching two years later as an assistant at Oregon. He would eventually become the head coach at USC in 1976 and the Los Angeles Rams in 1983.
He led the Trojans to five PAC-8/PAC10 championships and won four Rose Bowls in two stints at the school.
Robinson was 89 years old.
