Kelly covers officiating, Emery Jr. on teleconference

Every week Southeastern Conference teams file an officiating report to the league office. It’s returned within 48 hours with explanations of the calls in question.
Immediately following LSU’s win at South Carolina, head coach Brian Kelly explained that his report would include South Carolina’s second quarter blocked punt.
“We believe it was an illegal block,” Kelly said postgame. “We voiced our concern with it. We will address it with the SEC Officiating crew and (Coordinator of Officials) John McDaid. We believe we have an argument there.”
Kelly heard back from McDaid on Tuesday.
“The response was that the leaping took place outside the framework of the body of (Bo) Bordelon, who was the shield,” Kelly explained. “If it takes place outside the framework, and the framework is characterized as shoulder pad to shoulder pad…then leaping is allowed. We agreed to disagree.”
EMERY’S RETURN
It has been two weeks since John Emery Jr.’s season-ending knee injury. The graduate running back has taken some time away from the team to recover from the surgery and return to his graduate classes.
Kelly is excited to have Emery back with the team in short order.
“He’s now able to be around the team,” Kelly said. “He was here yesterday with us, and he now be able to travel with us on our next travel. We’re ready to get him back with us in the meeting room so he’ll be able to help some of the younger players. He can be a great asset for us.”
Emery has six years of experience in the program. Saturday true freshman Caden Durham led the way for LSU with 98 yards on the ground.
