LSU completed its fifth workout of spring practice Saturday at the McClendon Practice Facility. Media was allowed to watch outside for nearly an hour before lightening forced the team inside for the remainder of the practice.
The team worked out in full pads and was starting an 11-on-11 period between the starting units when the weather turned bad. The four plays were:
- Caden Durham ran a stretch play around left end and turned the corner for a big gain.
- Garrett Nussmeier kept the ball on an option read to the right for a big gain.
- Durham was stuffed by STAR Austin Ausberry at the line of scrimmage.
- Tamarcus Cooley notched a PBU on a 10 yard out route intended for Aaron Anderson.
The first team offense:
- QB – Garrett Nussmeier
- RB – Caden Durham
- TE – Trey’Dez Green
- WR – Zavion Thomas, Chris Hilton, Aaron Anderson
- OL – Tyree Adams, Paul Mubenga, DJ Chester, Bo Bordelon, Weston Davis (from left to right)
The first team defense:
- DE – Gabe Reliford, Jack Pyburn
- DT – Dominick McKinley, Ahmad Breaux
- LB – West Weeks, Davhon Keys
- STAR – Austin Ausberry
- CB – Ashton Stamps, Ja’Keem Jackson
- S – Javien Toviano, Tamarcus Cooley
Notes:
The defensive backs more than held their own in 1-on-1 drills against receivers and tight ends. Nussmeier, Michael Van Buren and Ju’Juan Johnson rotated throwing.
Freshman DJ Pickett won all three reps against Barion Brown, TaRon Francis and Chris Hilton.
Thomas caught a slant against Ashton Stamps that he took for a touchdown.
Hilton burned Jackson on a go route, but Nussmeier missed him likely due to the wind.
Mansoor Delane had impressive wins over Barion Brown and TaRon Francis.
Of the 22 reps I charted, only five passes were completed.
The offensive line shuffle continued throughout the day. Braelin Moore and Chester both took reps at center and right guard. Coen Echols even took a few snaps with the first unit at right guard.
During team periods, they ran two-tight end sets with Green and Bauer Sharp.
Tyler Miller, Brett Bordelon, and Ory Williams were not participating. Jardin Gilbert was also out.
