Mathieu, Lattimore Out For Wednesday Workout

09/11/2024
Mathieu Lattimore

As the New Orleans Saints gear up for their matchup with the Dallas Cowboys, they retook the field for their first day of Week 2 practices. While some young players made their way back to participating, some key veterans were not available as they managed injury. The two biggest names to watch both being in the secondary, cornerback Marshon Lattimore and safety Tyrann Mathieu.

Here is the injury report information for the team’s first practice of the week:

New Orleans Saints

Did Not Participate

CB Marshon Lattimore (Hip/Hamstring)

S Tyran Mathieu (Heel)

DT Khalen Saunders (Calf)

LB D’Marco Jackson (Calf)

OL Lucas Patrick (Toe)

Limited Participation

LB Jaylan Ford (Hamstring)

OT Taliese Fuaga (Back)

TE Dallin Holker (Ankle)

TE Foster Moreau (Concussion)

Full Participation

WR A.T. Perry

RB Jamaal Williams (Shoulder)

WR Rashid Shaheed (Finger)

OL Nick Saldiveri (Calf)

It is still early in the week, so watching to see how things trend for Mathieu and Lattimore will be the focus for many. However, with both being so experienced within the system, they could play even if only limited for Friday’s practice. So, seeing both out of practice on Thursday would not be the biggest shock.

Seeing Moreau out there was a big positive. After a scary moment in the Week 1 opener landed him in concussion protocol, seeing him immediately out and participating is a great sign.

Watching out for Fuaga will be key this week as well. Expect Landon Young to get the start at left guard, and the returns of Holker, Ford and Perry are all important positives.

Dallas Cowboys

Did Not Participate

TE Jake Ferguson (Knew)

DE Marshawn Kneeland (Calf)

TE John Stephens (Hamstring)

Limited Participation

WR Brandin Cooks (Rest)

CB C.J. Goodwin (Foot)

LB Eric Kendricks (Rest)

DE DeMarcus Lawrence (Rest)

OG Zach Martin (Rest)

Lots of rest for the Cowboys’ valuable veterans but one name to watch is Kneeland. Pass rushers Micah Parsons, Lawrence and Kneeland combined for over 20 pressures alone against the Cleveland Browns. If he is even hampered, that could reduce some of Dallas’ pass rushing efficiency.
