Napier encouraged by Lagway injury update

In a season where Billy Napier and the Florida Gators needed a lot to go right, it doesn’t feel like a lot has.

That trend continued on Saturday when, while holding a 10-3 first half lead against arch-rival Georgia, freshman quarterback DJ Lagway went down with a hamstring injury and was carted off the field.

On Monday head coach Billy Napier gave an update on his condition and status.

“The good news is, we’ve had positive information on that front,” Napier said. “That is the positive thing, we do think the injury is less significant. We think there’s a pathway for a recovery and return. And we did find that out (Sunday) evening. Lot of good on that front. So, less significant than we anticipated.”

Lagway exited the game after throwing for a 43-yard touchdown pass. On the season he has thrown for 1,071 total yards with six touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 60.9 percent of his passes.

Walk on and former Yale quarterback Aidan Warner replaced Lagway and completed just seven of his 22 attempts.

The Gators head to Austin this week to play Texas.
