New Orleans Saints rookie class initial jersey numbers

It looks like the New Orleans Saints’ rookie class has its initial numbers. Now listed on the team website, all 20 of the team’s rookies (drafted and undrafted) look to be assigned a jersey number that they’ll begin with during rookie minicamps which open this week.

Each player could potentially change their digit before the season begins, if they so choose. Once roster cuts are made and the 53-man roster and 16 or 17-player practice squad (kicker Charlie Smyth gets an international player roster exemption) is set, plenty of numbers will become available. Minds could change, but for now, here’s what numbers the rookies are set to don during the offseason. 

The list includes quarterback Tyler Shough who looks to have taken Saints legend and former punter Thomas Morstead’s advice.

Notable also on the site are position indicators. Banks is clearly identified as a tackle rather than the more general “OL” designation. The same can be said for Kilty. Meanwhile “EDGE” is a new position designation for the team, previously listing ends as “DE” or “DL” for those that may move around. Both Diggs and Davis have landed that tag.
