LSU suffered a heartbreaking series loss at Texas A&M over the weekend, but it wasn’t enough to cost them a top eight seed according to the folks at D1Baseball and Baseball America.

D1Baseball only dropped LSU to the No. 4 overall seed behind Texas, Arkansas and Florida State. Mark Etheridge, D1Baseball’s authority on bracket projections, told Matt Moscona on After Further Review that Texas’s league record of 19-5 and Arkansas’s body of work clearly merited the two spots. He said Florida State was likely to win the ACC, earning the third spot. LSU led a group that includes Georgia, Auburn and North Carolina for the next four spots.

D1Baseball’s Baton Rouge Regional included No. 2 seed Miami, No. 3 seed Southeastern Louisiana and No. 4 seed Central Connecticut. It was paired with the Eugene Regional with was hosted by No. 13 overall seed Oregon and included TCU (No. 2), Cal Poly (No. 3) and Fairfield (No. 4).

Baseball America dropped LSU down to the No. 6 overall seed. UTSA was the No. 2 seed in Baton Rouge. Again, Southeastern Louisiana was included as the No. 3, and Holy Cross of the Patriot League was the No. 4 seed.

Baton Rouge was once again paired with the Big 10 out west. Host and No. 11 national seed UCLA would battle with UC-Irvine (No. 2), Arizona State (No. 3) and Yale (No. 4).

Plenty of action remains with two regular season weeks to play and the conference tournaments to follow. Right now, LSU appears to be in good position according to the prognosticators.
