Oklahoma fans have had enough of the Sooner offensive woes for awhile it seems. It appears that Brent Venables finally had enough as well.
Late Sunday afternoon, Sooner Scoop reported that Oklahoma offensive coordinator Seth Littrell has been fired. Littrell was hired last December to replace Jeff Lebby who left Norman to become the head coach at Mississippi State.
The offense struggled throughout most of the season under Littrell, juggling two freshman quarterbacks as well as losing their top five pass catchers on the depth chart in September.
The numbers were historically bad for a Sooner program who is used to being amongst the top offenses in the country.
Through seven games this season, Oklahoma ranked 107th or worse in seven major offensive categories including: total offense (128th), scoring offense (107th), Rushing offense (114th), passing offense (116th), yards per play (132nd), yards per carry (124th), and yards per attempt (128th).
The Sooners failed to score more than 20 offensive points or gain over 300 yards in every conference game so far this season. Oklahoma finished ranked in the top 10 nationally in points per game in seven of the previous eight seasons.
Co-Offensive coordinator Joe Jon Finley is expected to become the offensive play caller for the Sooners moving forward.
The Sooners (4-3, 1-3) travel to Oxford to face Ole Miss Saturday.
