Oklahoma Head Coach Brent Venables will call defensive plays in 2025

Oklahoma has been without a defensive coordinator since Zac Alley left for West Virginia in late December. While they still don’t have a coordinator, they do have someone already on staff who will call defensive plays for the Sooners next season.
Head coach Brent Venables will take over play-calling duties for the Sooner defense next season. Venables made the announcement early Saturday afternoon, as he met with the media.
Venables was the defensive coordinator at Clemson for ten years before taking the head coaching job at Oklahoma. He was the defensive coordinator for eight years from 2004 through 2011 at Oklahoma prior to that.
Oklahoma announced Saturday the addition of two defensive coaches to its staff. The Sooners hired Nate Dreiling and Wes Goodwin, who were defensive coordinators at Arkansas State and Clemson, respectively.
