Pearson, Eyanson, Evans power LSU past Sooners for series win

THE STORY
LSU is proving game by game how many ways it can win.
Friday’s victory was more conventional than most.
Anthony Eyanson was good. So was Casan Evans.
LSU’s offense was good. Josh Pearson hit two homers. Daniel Dickinson added one.
All of that adds up to an 10-2 win to clinch the series at No. 10 Oklahoma.
In cold conditions and against a solid team, LSU has outclassed the 10th ranked Sooners for two days.
Eyanson struck out eight in his 5.2 innings, and a lot of that was with traffic on the bases. Oklahoma put a runner on in four of the six innings he worked, but the talented right hander only allowed one extra base hit, an RBI double through the Tiger shift from Jaxon Willits that plated a run and cut the LSU lead to 4-2 in the third.
The Tigers took a 4-0 lead in the second with three straight two-out RBI hits. Chris Stanfield dunked a double in to left to plate a pair. Derek Curiel’s pop up found grass in shallow right for a run. Jared Jones bounced one up the middle to score the fourth run.
It felt like LSU was in control when Eyanson retired the side in the bottom half of the inning in order with two strikeouts.
Eyanson is steadily establishing himself as a quality second starter in the SEC.
Casan Evans is a star.
For the second straight week, Evans took over in the sixth and completely slammed the door for Eyanson. He fired the final 3.1 innings in shutout fashion. Pearson dropped a routine fly ball on the warning track to lead off the ninth. Evans responded by striking out the next three.
Eyanson and Evans combined to strike out 13 Sooner hitters, running LSU’s two-day total to 27.
LSU outhit Oklahoma 15-to-5.
LSU is showing a trend now of doing enough to beat aces with superb pitching and enough hitting. When the average starter and relievers show up, the Tigers are wearing them out.
A 9-2 start in league play sets LSU up in a spectacular spot. Every win in the 30-game gauntlet matters, and the Tigers will play for a third sweep in four weeks on Saturday.
