Pete Werner, Willie Gay Jr. Limited In Saints’ First Practice
09/04/2024
The first injury report for the New Orleans Saints’ 2024 season is here. While the Saints have been managing a host of injuries during training camp, they look to be on the mend heading into Sunday’s kickoff game against the Carolina Panthers. However, there were a few limited players that are without a doubt very important to their success.
Saints Week 1 Injury Report – Wednesday
Limited:
LB Willie Gay Jr. (Shoulder)
LB Pete Werner (Back)
CB Marshon Lattimore (Hip)
OL Nick Saldiveri (Calf)
Did Not Practice:
DT Khalen Saunders (Calf)
LB D’Marco Jackson (Calf)
LB Jaylan Ford (Hamstring)
TE Dallin Holker (Ankle)
After missing Monday’s “bonus” practice, Gay Jr. made his return as the team preps for Week 1. Good news for the Saints who will need the most from their defense while their offense gets its new system underneath them.
Werner missed some time during camp, but was also given an extension in the meanwhile. A pretty solid indication that things should be okay there. He an Gay Jr. along with Demario Davis will be essential to the team’s defensive success at linebacker.
Lattimore has been working his way back after missing the majority of training camp with a hip flexor injury. But it looks like he too will be ready to go. The same could be said for Saldiveri, although he may need a little more time being that he only just returned within the last few practices.
Panthers Week 1 Injury Report – Wednesday
Limited:
OT Yoshua Nijman (Tibia)
RB Miles Sanders (Finger)
Out:
TE Ian Thomas (Calf)
TE Tommy Tremble (Back/Hamstring)
Sanders and fellow running back Chubba Hubbard, who is expected to be the lead back in Carolina this year, combined for 161 rushing yards the last time these two teams met back in December. A healthy Sanders and Hubbard could be a real test for the Saints run defense to open the season. The team is looking to bounced back from it’s No. 22 overall ranking in that area from 2023.
