VanGorder joined Georgia’s staff in 2019 and has since worked as a quality control assistant. More recently, during last season, he took on the role of the team’s assistant quarterbacks coach in Athens.
The timing of the news is particularly interesting, especially since the Bulldogs are currently navigating a quarterback battle this season. Meanwhile, earlier this week, Kirby Smart praised his program’s strong ability to retain staff members.
“I think we built our program around retention,“ Smart said to local reporters on Tuesday. ”We’ve got the most stable, not only staff, but stable organization in all of college football. I think that’s what we’ve hung our hat on. We have stability. We have retention. We have a great foundation. We’re built to last.”
VanGorder planned to earn $97,000 with the Bulldogs in 2025. He played quarterback at Notre Dame and Youngstown State during his college career. His father, Brian VanGorder, led Georgia’s defense as coordinator from 2001 to 2004 and spent over 30 years coaching at the collegiate and professional levels.
