Rattler set franchise record in rookie season

With a head coach search ongoing, it can be easy to turn the page quickly on the previous season. But for New Orleans Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler, that season included him etching his name into the franchise’s record books.

Rattler may have only started six games and appeared in seven during his 2024 rookie season, but that’s all he needed to set the Saints’ all-time rookie passing yards record.

Analyst Sam Houseworth took to the social platform X (formerly Twitter) to share the young passer’s accomplishment.

The previous record was held by quarterback Archie Manning, who accumulated 1,164 passing yards in 1971. Manning appeared in 12 games with 10 starts during his rookie season. Rattler surpassed that mark by gaining 1,317 passing yards during his rookie campaign.

Rattler’s six starts, though losses for the team, showed a lot of promise and have generated excitement around his future. With starting quarterback Derek Carr and third-year signal caller Jake Haener still in the room, nothing is given when it comes to promise.

But with head coach search still under way, pivots and changes at quarterback are far from unlikely. If Rattler wanted to find a way to set himself apart for any incoming decision makers, this accomplishment could certainly help.
