Report: Giants to bench Daniel Jones

In just three week’s time, the New Orleans Saints will travel to Interim Head Coach Darren Rizzi’s home state of New Jersey to take on the New York Giants.
Ahead of the Week 14 matchup, the Giants have made a significant decision that will change the complexion of that matchup.
Per NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, the Giants have benched starting quarterback Daniel Jones. After a 2-8 start, the benching is being called a “football decision” as New York looks to cure what has ailed them for several seasons–quarterback play.
The challenge for the Giants, however, will be that they don’t necessarily have the talent behind Jones to turn to in the short-term. The quarterback depth chart for New York is populated by former Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos castaway Drew Lock and flash-in-the-pan star Tommy DeVito.
Multiple reports say that the Giants will turn to DeVito after sitting Jones. If he makes it through the next two games against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Dallas Cowboys, he will be the starter when the Saints come to town Dec. 8.
The last time the Saints and Giants met was not long ago, Week 15 of last year. That game ended in a 24-6 win by the Saints at home in New Orleans. The defense also piled on seven sacks in the matchup, mimicking DeVito’s at-the-time viral celebration in the process.

Saints defensive lineman Tanoh Kpassagnon led the charge that game with a career-high three sacks. After his first, he immediately went to DeVito’s celebration. That led to a chain reaction as then-rookie defensive tackle Bryan Bresee followed suit. Bresee added a pair of sacks as well.

There is a chance that Kpassgnon, who suffered an offseason Achilles injury, makes his 2024 debut in the coming weeks following the Week 12 bye. He may be back just in time to face an old friend in DeVito. The Saints are surging right now with some beatable teams up on the schedule to come, and the Giants are prime for punishment yet again after a last-season quarterback change.
