Report: Kellen Moore to become Saints coach

NEW ORLEANS – It will take at least another week, but the New Orleans Saints are closing in on hiring their next head coach.
ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter appeared on the Pat McAfee Show while on Super Bowl radio row in New Orleans and shed light on the Saints’ ongoing pursuit of Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as their next head coach.
“Barring any setback, (Moore) is going to be the guy,” Schefter said of the possible Saints hire.
The Saints are currently unable to speak with Moore until after the Super Bowl has concluded. That will be a delicate balance for New Orleans, as the Eagles are practicing at the Saints’ Metairie facility this week. But general manager Mickey Loomis is going by the book, Schefter said.
“The head of the Saints organization, Mickey Loomis,” he said. “Is going to do everything in his power, when it comes to this coaching hire, to follow the rules and go by the book and not talk to Kellen Moore until after the Super Bowl.
Schefter also acknowledged that talks could certainly break down. He cited three failed coaching pursuits including the New York Jets failing to land Bill Belichick, Josh McDaniels about-facing on the Indianapolis Colts, and this year’s shocker of Liam Coen’s quiet reversal from Tampa Bay to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Despite those possibilities, however, this is looking like a sure thing it can be at this time.
