Ahead of their season finale against the Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints head coach Kellen Moore announced a flurry of roster moves and injury updates.
Moore announced that several key players will be out against the Falcons with injury, all of which were expected after news of Chris Olave’s blood clot procedure was reported on Thursday.
The Saints will be without Olave and fellow wide receiver Mason Tipton, running back Alvin Kamara, tight ends Jack Stoll and Zaire Mitchell-Paden, defensive tackles Bryan Bresee and Nathan Shepherd, and cornerback/special teamer Michael Davis.
Tipton, Mitchell-Paden, Stoll and Davis have all also been added to Injured Reserve, making room for additional players to be called up to the active roster.
Per Moore, the players signed to the 53-man roster are wide receivers Ronnie Bell and Samori Toure along with rookie edge rusher Fadil Diggs. New Orleans still has one additional roster spot open and can also elevate up to a pair of players to the game day roster with the team’s Saturday roster moves.
The flurry of transactions and injury updates also included the announcement that three Saints will be questionable for the matchup: guard Dillon Radunz, quarterback Spencer Rattler and linebacker Demario Davis.
New Orleans’ offense has already been short-handed for several weeks due to a combination of injuries and roster transactions. That situation now reaches a boiling point as the team faces the rival Falcons to close out the season.
Rookie quarterback Tyler Shough won’t have many starters around him on Sunday and the defense is now missing some key contributors in the trenches while taking on one of the league’s top running back talents in Bijan Robinson.
A win Sunday in Atlanta would cap off a five-game win streak for New Orleans to carry into the offseason, but would also be a triumphant statement of resilience and competitiveness, magnifying the winning culture that Moore has been leading and building.
