According to Schefter, the belief is that Saints would be looking to move up to select Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart. The Saints hold the 40th overall pick, which is the seventh selection in Round 2.
If the Saints don’t select a quarterback No. 9 overall, the belief is the team would use the pick on an offensive or defensive lineman, Schefter reported.
New Orleans used its first round pick a year ago on left tackle Taliese Fuaga and its 2023 first round selection on defensive tackle Bryan Bresee. Still, the Saints have a hole at left guard and the run defense was second worst in the NFL in 2024.
The Saints have only used a first round pick on a quarterback once in its history, selection Archie Manning second overall in 1971.
