Report: Saints will interview former LSU DC Saturday

By Ross Jackson
NEW ORLEANS, La. — The New Orleans Saints will conduct their first defensive coordinator interview on Saturday.
Newly-hired head coach Kellen Moore has hit the ground running building out his offensive coaching staff with multiple hires this week, but is turning his focus to the defense this weekend.
As previously reported, the Saints requested an interview with Minnesota Vikings defensive backs coach and defensive passing game coordinator Daronte Jones for their own defensive coordinator role. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, that interview will take place on Saturday.
The former LSU Tigers defensive coordinator will be the first candidate interviewed for the position. Former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley is currently the favorite to land the job.
The Saints must conduct a full search process for each of their three open coordinator spots, including satisfying the Rooney Rule in the process.
Jones should be seen as more than just a check in the box, despite that context. He has been considered for both the Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator positions during this year’s coaching cycle, as well.
