Ruiz in concussion protocol as Saints begin Giants prep

The New Orleans Saints and New York Giants have released their first injury report of the week ahead of their Week 14 matchup. After a surprise absence by offensive lineman Cesar Ruiz, the report provides a little more detail as to why he was out during practice. Otherwise, the team is about where it was expected to be, including several returns.
Here is the information from Wednesday’s Week 14 injury report:
New Orleans Saints
Did Not Participate:
TE Taysom Hill (Knee)
G Cesar Ruiz (Concussion)
G Nick Saldiveri (Knee)
Limited Participation:
WR Bub Means (Ankle) – 21-Day Practice Window
G Lucas Patrick (Calf)
C Erik McCoy (Groin)
TE Juwan Johnson (Foot)
TE Foster Moreau (Shoulder)
Full Participation:
LB Pete Werner (Hand)
RB Kendre Miller (Hamstring) – 21-Day Practice Window
S Tyrann Mathieu (Forearm)
DL Tanoh Kpassagnon (Achilles)
The only big surprise here was the non-participation of Ruiz. The starting right guard finished the game on the field and looked fine from the viewer perspective. However, interim head coach Darren Rizzi updated that he was in concussion protocol after not feeling well after the game. A positive though, is that he has already cleared the early steps of the protocol. That makes it sound like there is a chance that he’s on the field Sunday. Tracking his progress over Thursday and Friday will give more clarity.
New York Giants
Did Not Participate:
DB Tae Banks (Rib)
OL Jermaine Eluemunor (Quad)
OL Evan Neal (Hip)
DL Hakeem Nunez-Roches (Neck/Shoulder)
LB Bobby Okereke (Back)
Limited Participation:
DL D.J. Davidson (Shoulder)
QB Tommy DeVito (Right Forearm)
WR Bryce Ford-Wheaton (Achilles)
LB Dyontae Johnson (Ankle)
DL Jordan Riley (Knee)
The Giants announced on Wednesday that DeVito will not be the starting quarterback against the Saints. Instead, the team will turn to quarterback Drew Lock. This will be Lock’s first career game against New Orleans.
The Giants are also dealing with some important injuries on their offensive line and defensive front. Those will be important to watch as the game nears.
