Saints draft position unchanged after Packers loss

By Ross Jackson
NEW ORLEANS — After their 34-0 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football, New Orleans held steady with the No. 10 overall selection in the first round.
The NFL offseason is drawing near and it offers the opportunity of a fresh start for each team. The Saints are in desperate need of a reset after another disappointing season.
No offseason event offers more promise and excitement than the NFL Draft. The Saints are in position to be able to land a cream-of-the-crop prospect with two games left to be played.
With needs all over the roster, this puts the Saints in great position to invest in their trenches on either side of the ball, snatch up a playmaking wide receiver or invest in their defensive backfield.
Where the Saints will go in the draft remains a mystery with changes at head coach and potential scheme changes on the way.
If the draft were to happen today, New Orleans would have five picks in the top-125 selections.
Picks Nos. 7-9 are all held by teams that are currently 4-11. With a loss next week, the Saints could see their draft position improved. But with the 3-12 Las Vegas Raiders on the way, New Orleans may be on the way to another win. But in any case, the Saints should be picking at a favorable position, in the top-half of the first round.
