The timeline of the NFL coaching search has extended each year, generating confusion and concern around fan bases. However, this week, things will finally start to make progress.

The New Orleans Saints have interviewed three candidates for their open head coaching position and up to four more candidates could be meeting with the team this week. The newest name is Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Now that the wild-card round is over, those coaching this past weekend can begin virtual interviews with clubs three days after their game concludes. Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady will be the first on the Saints’ list to become eligible on Tuesday. Kingsbury will be able to begin on Wednesdays. Interviews have to be finished by the conclusion of the divisional round.

Kingsbury put on a nice display with his offense against a tough defense in Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers held the Commanders on a goal line stand at one point, but otherwise, Kingsbury’s approach with spectacular rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels lifted the Commanders over the Bucs.

Kingsbury’s time as the Arizona Cardinals’ head coach had its ups, but mostly downs. The questions about his effectiveness as a head coach compared to a coordinator continue to linger. However, that’s what the interview process will be used to determine.

New Orleans also requested to speak with Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, who is also eligible to begin his virtual interviews on Wednesday. It could be a busy week for New Orleans, between those three candidates and interim head coach Darren Rizzi all being possible interviews.
