Saints in attendance as LSU Tigers impress at pro day

By Ross Jackson
NEW ORLEANS, La. – As the weather in Louisiana heats up, so too do the state’s pro days. One day after Tulane University hosted its pro day in New Orleans, the LSU Tigers followed suit on Wednesday morning with some very impressive performances, particularly for offensive playmakers.
Many eyes were on one of the expected top performers, tight end Mason Taylor, who did not disappoint.
TE Mason Taylor Wows
The Saints may have spent some time and money at tight end this offseason, but with future questions upcoming at the position, Taylor is a name that was likely to draw eyes. While he did not do workouts at the NFL Combine, his on-field drills drew praise. At his pro day, the testing took center stage. All testing numbers are the most up-to-date results provided by LSU.
Pro Day Results:
- 40-yard-dash: 4.65 seconds
- Bench: 28 reps
- Short shuttle: 4.52
- 3-Cone: 7.06 seconds
Taylor may have tested his way into second-round conversation, depending on how the demand for draftable tight ends winds up on day two of the selection process. His measurements will aid in that endeavor.
Pro Day Measurements
- Height: 6-foot-5
- Weight: 246 pounds
- Hand size: 9.75 inches
- Arm length: 32.25 inches
- Wingspan: 79 inches
Saints Spent Time With Taylor
Several Saints staff members, including Director of Pro Personnel Michael Parenton, run game coordinator T.J. Paganetti, and scout Josh Hill, spent time speaking privately with Taylor.

One of the top performances of the day came from the 5-foot-8, 196 pound running back who sprinted for 482 rushing yards on 117 carries. He also scored six rushing touchdowns in 2024. His testing at the Tigers indoor practice facility may have helped him out quite a bit when it comes to his draft outlook.
Pro Day Results:

- Vertical: 42 inches
- Broad jump: 10-foot-2

Key Non-Participants
There were two key Tiger offensive linemen that did not participate on Wednesday. The first being top-10 projected draft selection and offensive tackle Will Campbell. The second being mid-round projection Emery Jones Jr. Jones was wearing a sling on his left arm and spent some time talking with Paganetti, as well.
While Campbell did not participate in drills, he did undergo measurements. Many questions have been asked about his arm length, an annual draft conversation for offensive linemen on the cusp of certain prototypical results.
Will Campbell’s Pro Day Measurements:
- Height: 6-foot-5
- Weight: 317 pounds
- Hand size: 9.5 inches
- Arm length: 33 inches
- Wingspan: 77.25 inches
Campbell later commented on the questions around his arm length. “For two years, nobody had any measurements on me,” he said. “And nobody said anything about my play. So now, all of a sudden, arm length decides if I’m a good player or not? I think it’s BS.”
Saints Staff In Attendance
The Saints had a contingent in attendance at LSU’s pro day which included the names mentioned above; Paganetti, Parenton, and Hill. Others in attendance included General Manager Mickey Loomis, Assistant General Manager Khai Harley, Assistant Defensive Line Coach Brian Young, and Director of Sports Science Ted Rath.
LB Greg Penn III Disputes His 40 Time
Initial reporting via LSU noted Penn with a 4.83 40-yard-dash time. He took to social media to refute that result.

The time was later updated, but not quite to the 4.6 time that Penn suggested, at least not yet. LSU’s current timing shows 4.78 seconds, still an improvement from the original time. It isn’t out of the ordinary for pro day numbers to be updated after the drills.
