METAIRIE, La. — After returning to practice on Friday, the New Orleans Saints look to have been without two offensive lineman throughout the week. That doesn’t look good for a line that just started to get healthy again.
Here is the attendance from the portion of Friday’s practice that was open to the the media:
Not Seen:
G/C Lucas Patrick
C Erik McCoy
Interim head coach Darren Rizzi said that the team will put McCoy through a workout on Saturday to test his chances to be ready to go by Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. That should make McCoy a true game time decision.
The starting center has proven to be pivotal to the team’s success. Getting him back on the field after an early-season groin surgery will be tempting this week, but the long-term negotiation of making sure he is available for the remaining weeks of the season may have to take precedent.
If McCoy is unable to go, expect veteran lineman Shane Lemieux to take those snaps at center.
It seems likely that Patrick will again be unavailable as well. Giving second-year lineman Nick Saldiveri the opportunity to start again. This is looking like a position that is sure to get attention over the offseason.
