Saints reportedly not considering Aaron Rodgers

NEW ORLEANS — Despite what may seem like a desperate quarterback situation, the New Orleans Saints aren’t desperate enough to join the sweepstakes for one prominent and enigmatic passer.
Per NOLA.com’s Jeff Duncan, the Saints will not pursue veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers despite having a very young quarterback room.
“The lone free agent QB with star power, Aaron Rodgers, is not under consideration, according to sources,” Duncan wrote in his column. “Which makes sense for a team with a first-time, 36-year-old head coach.”
Duncan also reports that the Saints’ most likely scenario is to let things play out between their young passers. The Saints have two rookies in Tyler Shough (second-round pick) and Hunter Dekkers (undrafted free agent), second-year quarterback Spencer Rattler and third-year signal caller Jake Haener. None of the four has won an NFL start, but head coach Kellen Moore is looking to change that.
So, as anticipated, the Saints aren’t likely to strap themselves to another aging quarterback like Rodgers right away.
No surprise here, but Aaron Rodgers never really was a consideration for the Saints in the wake of the Derek Carr retirement. At their current stages, they don’t make sense for him, and he doesn’t make sense for them.

The Saints have navigated enough quarterback drama for one offseason, that adding Rodgers never felt like a logical next step for the team. It looks like the franchise, which could still go after a different veteran signal caller if things don’t work out with the young guns, feels the same way.
