Saints to host WR Gabe Davis

The New Orleans Saints are ramping up their roster tinkering with training camp a little over a month away.
Per NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, the team is set to host former Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Gabe Davis.

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound receiver also visited the Pittsburgh Steelers recently, but ultimately did not sign. Per Rapaport via NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football,” Davis is still recovering from his meniscus injury, which he suffered in Week 11 last year.
“They hosted Gabe Davis on a visit,” he said of Pittsburgh. “[He’s] not quite ready to sign just health-wise yet.”
The Saints have been considered a team in need of another big-bodies wide receiver. While Davis’ 6-foot-2 height matches the Saints’ tallest receivers, his 225-point frame and outstanding run blocking ability would be assets for head coach Kellen Moore’s offense.
The biggest concerns around Davis are the injury recovery, which is really just a conversation of timeline more than anything else, and his catching ability.
Davis has never crossed a 60-percent catch rate in his career and holds a 53.7% career reception percentage. Both of those metrics leave a bit to be desired from a pass-catching standpoint. But sometimes a change of quarterback (ie. Ted Ginn Jr. in 2017 with the Saints) can change everything.
Davis will be a name to watch. He is receiving more than $11 million from the Jaguars, making a one-year, veteran minimum deal likely for his next destination.
