SEC dominates AP Top 25 with historic 1-2 ranking

By Chris Marler
The latest AP Top 25 has been released, with nine SEC teams ranked. That has been the norm this season, as at least seven SEC teams have appeared in the rankings each week. What hasn’t been standard is what—or who—is becoming the new standard.
For the first time in the history of this conference the No. 1 and No. 2 teams are both from the SEC. Auburn and Alabama are ranked in the top two spots, ahead of their showdown this Saturday in Tuscaloosa. Perhaps even more impressive than the SEC holding the top two spots is that it also occupies the top three overall—and four of the top five.
Florida moved up to No. 3 after their win at Auburn and Tennessee returned to the top five after going 2–0 on the week. The fifth team in the top five resides in College Station, as the Aggies move up to No. 8, after another huge road win at Missouri.
The remaining four teams in the top 25 are the usual suspects with Kentucky, Missouri, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State all remaining in the rankings for the third consecutive week. Here’s a look at the full rankings with the SEC teams in bold
