Sellers to Start for USC

An expected move is now official.  Redshirt freshman quarterback LaNorris Sellers has been named the starter by South Carolina coach Shane Beamer.

Sellers beat our former Auburn signal caller Robby Ashford for the job.

Beamer said he met with the two Tuesday morning to inform them of the decision before he announced it to the media.

“Both of them were great,” Beamer said. “I meant what I said to you guys on Saturday after the scrimmage, I really feel like we have multiple quarterbacks that we can win with…As I told LaNorris and Robby both, when I talked to them this morning, we’re continuing – like every position – the guy that gives us the best chance to be successful is going to be the guy that’s in there, week in and week out.”

Sellers played in just three games as a freshman, completing all four of his passing attempts.  The 6-foot-3, 242 pounder signed in the class of 2023 as a three star out of Florence, SC.

The Gamecocks open the season Aug. 31 at home against Old Dominion. LSU travels to Columbia in Week 3 for the Tigers’ conference opener.
