Hugh Freeze was sick, and Auburn fell behind, 10-0, early in the first quarter on the road.
Neither of those things mattered when the clock hit zero Saturday night in Lexington, as Auburn played their best game of the season and beat Kentucky, 24-10.
Payton Thorne played well completing 76.9 percent of his passes for 172 yards and a touchdown. But running back Jarquez Hunter stole the show with a career high 278 yards on the ground and two scores. On the night, Auburn ran the ball 50 times which was the third most rushing attempts in the last 5 years for the Tigers.
The Auburn defense gave up 115 yards in the first quarter when they trailed by double digits. However, they allowed only 109 the rest of the game and Kentucky failed to score the rest of the game.
The win was Auburn’s 19th in their last 20 total matchups against Kentucky, and it also improved their season record to 3-5 on the year. The Tigers return home next week to host Vanderbilt in what will be their first home game in over a month dating back to September 28 against Oklahoma.
