Station Survey: How many SEC teams in the CFP?

10/04/2024

We polled the staff at 104.5 ESPN. How many SEC teams will make the College Football Playoff? Which ones? Let’s see what they had to say.

Jacob Hester, Co-Host Off the Bench: Only 3. Texas, Bama and Tennessee.

T-Bob Hebert, Co-Host, Off the Bench: Four SEC teams make the playoffs.  Texas, UGA, Alabama and Tennessee.  All are complete teams that are great on both sides of the ball.

Taylor Sharp, Video Producer, Off the Bench: I think 3 SEC teams will make it, but you could argue 4. If the Big 10 gets 3, ACC gets 2, and the Big 12 gets 2, that only leaves two at large spots, one of which goes to the highest ranked G5 school.  As far as which three, I think it’s Texas, Alabama, and Georgia.  I can’t trust Lane Kiffin and I’ll need to see it to believe it with Tennessee.

Alondra Villareal, Audio Producer, Off the Bench: 4. Alabama, Texas, Tennessee, and looking at the rest of their schedule, I think Georgia makes it too.

Charles Hanagriff, Co-Host, Live at Lunch: Four, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Texas.  If the losses BY these teams are TO these teams, then 10-2 should still get in.  Losses by LSU and Ole Miss are more damaging because they’ve lost to teams that have already lost another game.  Missouri remains unbeaten, but they’ve escaped a couple of close calls, and their schedule gets thicker from here.

Hunt Palmer, Host, The Hunt Palmer Show: I don’t think four is a shocking answer. I don’t think Alabama, Texas, Tennessee and Georgia are shocking answers. I do think Mizzou being left out at 10-2 will be shocking to some SEC fans in relation to their own programs. Light schedules are a blessing until they’re a curse. Mizzou 10-2…out.

Jacob Beck, Audio Producer, The Hunt Palmer Show: 4 teams make it. Texas, Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee. None of those teams will have more than 2 losses, and a 10-2 team in the SEC will get in.

Matt Moscona, Host, After Further Review: Four. Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama

Matthew Musso, Audio Producer, After Further Review: Three. Bama, Texas and Tennessee

Paul O’Neill, Video Producer, After Further Review: My prediction is that 3 SEC teams will make the 12-team College Football Playoff. I believe those teams will be Texas, Alabama and Georgia. I believe the first two out will be Ole Miss and LSU. Those two teams play next weekend and one of them will exit the game with two losses and have more tough opponents remaining. Tennessee still has to face both Georgia and Alabama and could easily lose both of them. Missouri could end the season with 1 loss but could get left behind depending on how the Big 10 and Big 12 shake out. I believe they will stumble somewhere along the way and lose one they shouldn’t. Texas has proved they are a legit title contender and Alabama already knocked off Georgia, giving them a massive quality win if they slip up somewhere else.

Final Tally:

Texas 10/10

Alabama 10/10

Georgia: 8/10

Tennessee: 8/10
