NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Saints aren’t just making cuts to get down to the required 53-man roster. With some injuries across their personnel, the Saints moved two players to Injured Reserve, per Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football.
- DT John Ridgeway III (pec)
- OL Landon Young (ankle)
Ridgeway Designated to Return
At roster cuts, teams are allowed to place two players on Injured Reserve without ending their seasons. That also means that the team no longer has to carry a player into the initial 53-man roster in order to move them to Injured Reserve later. That is the case with Ridgeway, who is expected to make his way back to the field at some point during the 2025 regular season. He could be a good reserve or backup option alongside Khristian Boyd to back up nose tackle Davon Godchaux.
Veteran DT John Ridgeway, whom the #Saints acquired via trade around this time last year, will miss some time with a pectoral injury but should be back early in the season, source says. https://t.co/hUr8sPLEoF

No Clear News On Young
Whether or not Young is also designated to return is currently unclear. But that would make sense. The Saints are thin with tackle depth, and depth in general, on the offensive line. Having a player like Young that can man both inside and outside offensive line positions would be a major benefit.
Young was carted off of the field after an ankle injury during the Saints’ final preseason game.
