METAIRIE, La. – The New Orleans Saints have released their Friday injury report with game designations ahead of this weekend’s matchup with the New York Giants. The Saints get some hopeful help on the offensive line while seeing a young rookie ready to leap into action on defense.
Here is the information from the week’s final injury report.
New Orleans Saints
Out
- WR Trey Palmer (ankle)
- CB Isaac Yiadom (hamstring)
- C/G Cesar Ruiz (ankle) – Ruled Out
- DE Chase Young (calf) – Ruled Out
Questionable
- QB Taysom Hill (knee)
- T/G Trevor Penning (ankle)
- OL Dillon Radunz (toe)
- TE Juwan Johnson (ankle)
- TE Foster Moreau (knee)
- DT John Ridgeway III (shoulder)
No Designation (Good to Go)
- S Justin Reid (knee)
- DT Davon Godchaux – NIR-rest
With Yiadom out, the Saints will turn to rookie cornerback Quincy Riley to man the outside. He may only appear in nickel snaps when corner Alontae Taylor moves inside, but with the snaps and opportunities he gets comes a greater evaluation of how he could contribute to the Saints’ defense as a future building block.
Radunz returned to practice for the first time in several weeks after suffering a toe injury. It doesn’t seem likely that he’ll leap back into the starting lineup, but if active, he could be a reliable emergency option.
We’ll have to wait to see if Moreau and Hill make their season debuts after coming off of the Physically Unable to Perform list this week. It would be surprising to see either of them on the field for more than a limited role, if at all. But leaving them questionable going into the weekend presents some gamesmanship. They and Ridgeway would have to first be added to the active roster before they could participate in the game. Making Saturday’s roster moves a strong indicator of how things will pan out for the trio.
New York Giants
Doubtful
- RB Tyrone Tracy (Shoulder)
Questionable
- DB Tyler Nubin (groin)
- DL Dexter Lawrence (Illness)
- LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (hamstring)
No Game Designation (Good to Go):
- DB Dane Belton (shoulder)
- DL D.J. Davidson (foot)
- DL Chauncey Golston (ankle)
- DB Jevon Holland (neck)
- OL John Michael Schmitz (ankle)
- DL Rakeem Nunez-Roches (foot)
- OL Andrew Thomas (foot/rest)
- OL Greg Van Roten (NIR – rest)
- QB Jaxson Dart (hamstring)
- RB Cam Skattebo (knee)
- QB Russell Wilson (ankle)
The majority of New York’s very long injury list looks to be good to go. The key player to watch will be Lawrence. He did not practice at all this week while wrestling with illness. However, the veteran player doesn’t necessarily need much time on the practice field to fill his role effectively.
Without Tracy, who will likely be out at this point, rookie running back Cam Skattebo is likely to see the bulk of the work in the run game. Limiting him and Dart on the ground will be a key to the Saints getting their first win of the season.
