LSU’s wounded defense is hoping for some reinforcements against Texas A&M.
Bernard Gooden‘s return appears more likely than Whit Weeks‘s. Head coach Brian Kelly confirmed Wednesday on the SEC Coaches Teleconference that Weeks did not practice on Tuesday and may not return this week from a bone bruise in his foot/ankle area.
“Whit is still non-weight bearing,” Kelly said. “He’s in the boot, and we’ll keep the boot on for another couple of days before we know what he can do. He’s been doing some additional treatments, and he’s feeling better, but we won’t know on him until later in the week.”
The news was more positive on Gooden who suffered a bruised collarbone against South Carolina that held him out at Vanderbilt.
“Gooden practiced yesterday,” Kelly said. “He didn’t get involved in everything. We wanted to get him involve slowly. He got some individual. He got some team reps. The report his morning was that he felt good.”
Without Weeks and Gooden, the Tiger defense struggled to slow down the Vanderbilt offense. Texas A&M comes to Baton Rouge ranked 17th in the country in total offense behind quarterback Marcel Reed who enjoyed a breakout performance against the Tigers in 2024.
The first availability report of the week will be released Wednesday evening.
