LSU won’t release an availability report for another week, but Frank Wilson is optimistic about the return of junior linebacker Whit Weeks.
“He had an evaluation that’s trending, and we had positive news on him,” Wilson said. “I’m optimistic more now than ever before that the probability of him playing in this game is a reality. I don’t know that for a fact just yet. We need to continue to trend in the right direction.”
Weeks suffered a bone bruise in LSU’s loss at Ole Miss. He tried to play through it against South Carolina but has missed the last two games because of it. Weeks is the captain of the Tiger defense which has struggled to replace his leadership and production at linebacker.
He did not practice on Tuesday as the LSU staff prioritized younger players getting reps, but there is hope that the bye week can provide the time to get him back in the lineup.
“He had a very, very productive day from a rehabilitation standpoint, from a diagnostic standpoint on his status,” Wilson said. “Would say he’s ascending, and the trajectory is in the right direction for a possibility of playing in the game.”
