In what was arguably the most anticipated Egg Bowl ever, Ole Miss was able to block out the noise and beat Mississippi State, 38-19.
The Story
Ole Miss and Mississippi State traded blows to start the game as each scored on their opening drive. Ole Miss came out on fire to start the game, and it looked like the Mississippi State defense were the ones who were distracted all week leading up to the game. After surrendering over 190 yards in the opening quarter, the Bulldog defense settled down and made it 14-10 right before the half.
Ole Miss kept swinging though and after being held to just 10 yards the first 13 minutes of the second quarter, went 75 yards in nine plays to go up 21-10 at the break.
Mississippi State fought hard for most of the game as backup QB Kamario Taylor showed signs of brilliance all afternoon. He capitalized on some open space early in the fourth quarter and scrambled 35 yards for a touchdown, breaking several ankles on his way to cutting the lead to 31-19.
Ole Miss suffocated the Bulldogs defensively and continued to do what they’ve done all season to defenses – score from far and make big plays, especially on third down. Trinidad Chambliss capped off one of the best stories of the college football season. The former Division II quarterback threw for four touchdowns and 359 yards.
The Stats
1 – For the first time in program history Ole Miss won 11 games in the regular season. It’s the fourth time in five years they have won double digit games under Lane Kiffin.
2 – Ole Miss only returned two starters from last year’s offense and still finished the year leading the conference in yards per game with over 493 ypg.
3 – Ole Miss has won three straight games in Starkville for the first time in 55 years.

Don’t care what happens, Ole Miss has won 11 regular season games. That’s something that I never thought I’d see. #RebsVsEverybody

Auburn tried to big time Ole Miss for Lane and then got big timed.
Florida tried to big time Ole Miss and now might get big timed by LSU.
Era of the haves and have nots is over. Now even the haves are being put in their place by bigger haves. https://t.co/ugvaNeVSov pic.twitter.com/jwEqRow4wE

Hence why I’ve said for weeks, the siren song of attention of a home playoff game in Oxford is the most important Ole Miss card held in the Lane sweepstakes
To think Lane would turn that opportunity down & crater the image he built in his PR and social media campaign is tough. https://t.co/roTLRZDfAt

The best Lane Kiffin storyline is him staying in Oxford and winning a Natty.
The second best storyline ends with Lane leaving early to take the LSU job only to watch a fired up Ole Miss team win a national title while Lane ends up never winning a title at LSU.

NEW: Lane Kiffin on whether he’s made up his mind about his decision to go to LSU or stay at Ole Miss:
“No, I haven’t. I’ve got a lot of praying to do to figure that out tomorrow.”https://t.co/magFyTpFSp https://t.co/7MVPoEQg2V pic.twitter.com/pRdgm2GiZ3

Ole Miss finishes 11-1, the greatest season in modern Rebel football history. Now they wait on Lane Kiffin to see if he accepts a job to coach one of their biggest rivals before playoff field is set. Just a completely bonkers, perfectly absurd only in college football story.
