One of the most prominent New Orleans Saints outgoing free agents is going to draw a lot of attention if he hits the open market. Versatile cornerback Alontae Taylor is expected to be the top corner available in free agency this offseason as his rookie contract expires. While the Saints are likely to try to keep him, three teams present a viable threat to their ability to do so.
Chicago Bears
Former Saints head coach and defensive playcaller Dennis Allen could look to combine a pair of his 2022 favorites. During that draft, the Saints were keyed in on safety Jaquan Brisker in the second round, however, the Bears scooped him up one selection before New Orleans was on the clock. The Saints then selected Taylor who went on to become one of the team’s top defensive playmakers.
Allen, now the Bears’ head coach, could possibly lure Taylor to rejoin his defense in the Windy City. If the Bears then get an extension or deal done to re-sign Brisker, he could have both of his draft targets on his defense.
Chicago is an ascending team with strong playcallers and the playmaking quarterback that can win games. That could be a comfortable fit for Taylor should he leave a similar situation in the Crescent City. His familiarity with Allen’s defense is also a big factor.
Indianapolis Colts
Before the Colts sent a pair of first-round picks to the New York Jets for cornerback Sauce Gardner, it appears that the team was considering a trade for Taylor ahead of the trade deadline.
Colts scoured the corner market in recent days and were also in the mix for New Orleans’ Alontae Taylor. They zeroed in on Sauce Gardner, a massive splash for a team that doesn’t often make them.

Now that the Colts are without some premium draft capital, the team could again target Taylor in free agency. Per a source, Indianapolis was willing to provide Taylor a chance to settle in on the boundary and earn a payday as an outside corner. If that opportunity still stands opposite Gardner, it could be a good fit for Taylor.
However, with the money now invested at the position with Gardner in tow, that may not leave much wiggle room available for a second highly paid cornerback.
Tennessee Titans
They may have only won three games last year, but it’s hard not to look at the Titan as a team on a good trajectory. They have the quarterback in second-year ladder Cam Ward, who can make some incredible plays. They have the new head coach, a defensively-minded one at that, with the recent hire of Robert Saleh.
There’s not much to balk at in Nashville.
The Titans also sit atop the NFL with over $100 million in cap space to spend. If the contract is right and Taylor buys into the future of the Titans the way many are buying into the future in New Orleans, Tennessee would be a strong landing spot for the corner.
