As NFL free agency nears, the New Orleans Saints have some important voiding contracts to consider. Defensive end Cam Jordan’s, should be seen as the biggest no-brainer move for the Saints.
Coming off of his seventh double-digit sack season at age 36, Jordan clearly still has much left to contribute to the team.
The 2011 first-rounder out of Cal has long stated his desire to be a lifer, finishing his career with the same team that drafted him. His father, legendary Minnesota Vikings tight end Steve Jordan, spent all of his years with the Vikings. Cam Jordan wants to do the same in the Crescent City.
Affording him the opportunity to do so with another contract this year feels both feasible and sensible.
Jordan played the second-lowest snap count of his career in 2026, but still found his way to 10 sacks on the season playing off the edge. It’s clear that he is a strong fit for defensive coordinator Brandon Staley’s system and could add both mentorship and on-field contributions as the team looks to compete next year.
With a starting quarterback nailed down and a chance to carry continuity into 2026 while adding new weapons, the Saints appear as ready as they have been in recent years to bounce back from their five-year playoff drought. Having Jordan as a part of that makes sense.
The contract will have to be right for both sides, and finding what that looks like will take a few swings. Not many players entering their age 37 season are also coming off of a 10-sack year with 15 tackles for a loss to add.
But once that range is found, it would be a no-brainer to get a deal done to keep Jordan in the black and gold for another season.
