METAIRIE, La. – The New Orleans Saints have made their first selection of the fourth round, bringing a big-bodied and physical presence to compete on their offensive line.
At No. 132 overall, the Saints nabbed Auburn offensive lineman Jeremiah Wright.
Wright was a commonly connected player to the Saints over the course of their draft process. He was a Senior Bowl participant (now the first of this year’s New Orleans draft class) and was brought in for a top-39 visit.
The Auburn guard is a physically imposing player standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing in at 331 pounds. He started every matchup over the last two years for the Tigers at right guard, but he has also seen time at left guard and started his collegiate career as a defensive tackle.
He’ll be 25-years old as a rookie and is a late transition to the offensive side of the ball but is a promising player because of his strength and physicality.
Wright will get time to develop as the Saints’ starting offensive line appears to be in place after the free agent addition of David Edwards at the position. But if his arrow continues to trend up, he’ll quickly compete for snaps and will provide quality depth as a mean, active and heavy-handed people-mover on the offensive interior.
