With the season on the line, LSU’s ace is returning.
Casan Evans has been announced as LSU’s Sunday starter at Georgia. The sophomore right-hander has missed two starts after feeling discomfort prior to his scheduled outing at Mississippi State on April 24.
Jay Johnson has expressed optimism about Evans’s status this week and insisted there was no structural damage to the Tiger ace’s arm. A source tells LousianaSports.net that Evans will be on a limited pitch count in his return to the mound.
Evans is 2-2 with a 5.47 ERA this season. He’s struck out 76 hitters in 52.2 innings of work.
The Tigers are 9-17 in SEC play and likely need to win the final four league games to have a realistic chance to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Georgia has taken the first two games of the weekend series by scores of 11-8 and 13-8.
It will be up to Evans to try to slow down a red hot Bulldog offense.
