MARLER: Best Odds to get to Omaha for SEC Teams

Tennessee Athletics

The field is set and games begin on Friday. With 12 SEC teams making the tournament, which ones have the best odds to get to Omaha? Here are our favorites.

Best Bet Overall: Georgia -105

Getting this Georgia team at -105 odds is a steal. I have no clue why they continue to be doubted. They have the fifth best odds to make it to Omaha despite being the third best team in the country per the seedings.

They went 26-7 against SEC competition this year and led the nation in home runs with 148. They also are -370 to win their regional. To make things even better, they would pair up with the winner of the Starkville Region in the Super Regionals.

Not only would they host that series, but they’re 4-0 against them this season.

Auburn at -130 is also almost a 1A and 1B situation here.

Worst Bet: Alabama +165

Alabama is the No. 7 seed nationally but has the tenth best odds to make it to Omaha.

If there was a bet on them not making it to Omaha, I would be far more inclined to make that. They were a no show in the SEC Tournament despite throwing their best arm.

Florida obliterated them 13-3 and sent them home after just one game. They don’t hit the ball very well, or well at all if we are being honest. The team batting average on the season is .253 which ranks 15th in the SEC.

They’re -145 to win their regional which are the sixth lowest odds of any regional host this weekend and play an Oklahoma State team that absolutely rakes with six players having double digit home runs.

Best Longshot: Tennessee +950

This is tough because there are only five teams with odds at +400 or more. Two of those teams are Kentucky and Oklahoma, and they don’t count because they aren’t any good.

I want to say Arkansas here at +425, but lining up against Georgia Tech in the Super Regionals will not bode well for anyone. There’s also Ole Miss who’s +500, but they would potentially line up against Auburn in the Supers, and I don’t trust their pitching against Auburn’s.

The answer is Tennessee at +950. Do I love those odds? Absolutely not. But they sit at only +370 to win the Chapel Hill Regional outright, and their roster fits that environment perfectly.

They would also match up with the No. 12 Seed Regional winner from College Station, and I’m not completely sold on Texas A&M making it out of there on opening weekend. Give me the Vols, who were playing their best baseball down the stretch.
