Summer Baseball Update: June 26

Notre Dame Athletics

The Tigers who will be playing summer baseball have arrived at their assignments.

Leagues are in full swing, so we’re checking in every Friday to update progress. Pitchers like Casan Evans, William Schmidt, Marcos Paz and others are working independently without a team/league structure.

That’s commonplace these days for LSU arms.

Some hitters are getting swings against good pitching to either get more at bats or work on some things that are harder to focus on in a long season. A pair of hurlers are auditioning for the draft.

CAPE COD LEAGUE

Reagan Ricken (Falmouth Commodores) 6 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 7 K

Dawson Park (Cotuit Kettleers) 3-for-15, 3 2B, 2 RBI, 4 BB, 4 K, HBP, .400 OBP

Santiago Garcia (Brewster Whitecaps) 7.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 6 K

Bino Watters (Chatham Anglers) 4-for-21, 2 RBI, 6 R, 7 BB, 5 K

Gavin Guidry (Chatham Anglers) 9.1 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 2 HR, 2 HBP, 4 BB, 8 K

Jason Wachs (Wareham Gatemen) 9-for-31 (.290), 3 2B, 2 SB, 2 BB, 9 K, 3 RBI

PACIFIC EMPIRE LEAGUE

William Patrick (Healdsburg Prune Packers) 8-for-24 (.333), 6 BB, 6 K, 7 RBI, .452 OBP, 1 2B

Jack Ruckert (Healdsburg Prune Packers) 12-for-39 (.308), 16 BB, 3 K, .517 OBP, 11 RBI, 3 2B

Ricken is two starts into what we are told will be three on the Cape. The seven strikeout total is encouraging, and three walks is a low number.

Park has played 16 innings at second base and 22 innings at shortstop this summer. It surprises me a little bit that he hasn’t played any third base. Offensively, you like the three doubles. That shows the bat speed and hard contact ability. He’s also doing a good job of getting on base.

Garcia is throwing the ball very, very well. That’s good news for his draft status as he’s not expected back at LSU.

On the other hand, it’s been rough on Gavin Guidry who is looking to sign professionally.

Wachs got off to an 0-for-15 start, but he’s swung it well the last week. Now he’s 9-for-31, so give him a 9-for-16 week to up his batting average to .290 in a pitcher friendly league. He had three doubles this week and drew a walk. He also swiped a pair of bases.

Patrick’s statistics have not changed this week.

Ruckert was 3-for-11 this week and drew six more walks to boost his OBP to .517 in 12 games. Two of the hits were doubles.
