BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU coach Lane Kiffin has added another familiar football name to his staff, with Nate Carroll joining the Tigers’ offensive operation.
Kiffin confirmed Carroll’s involvement with the program Sunday following LSU’s game against Auburn, explaining how the son of longtime NFL and college football coach Pete Carroll found his way to Baton Rouge.
Carroll initially arrived during preseason training camp to observe and learn LSU’s offensive system before becoming more involved with the coaching staff.
“Nate came to us late during training camp and actually was coming out, kind of learning some stuff on offense,” Kiffin said. “And then really, really liked it.”
Carroll brings extensive NFL coaching experience to LSU, having spent much of his professional career working under his father with the Seattle Seahawks.
What began as an opportunity to learn Kiffin’s offense eventually developed into a more significant role with the Tigers.
“He’s been helping us out and done a really good job getting along with offensive coaches and really fitting in well,” Kiffin said.
According to Kiffin, Carroll has been working closely with offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. and offensive assistant Dane Stevens, helping the Tigers with their offensive operation.
“He sits by Charlie and Dane up there and helps them,” Kiffin said.
The addition gives Kiffin another experienced offensive mind as LSU continues its first season under his direction.
Kiffin did not specify Carroll’s official title or detail his specific responsibilities, but made clear that the former NFL assistant has become a welcome addition to the Tigers’ offensive staff.
