When a season goes poorly, change usually follows.
Mavrick Rizy will reportedly become the first Tiger to enter the transfer portal with eligibility remaining. He’s likely not the last.
Rizy led LSU in appearances as a freshman but struggled to find the strike zone as a sophomore in 2026. The towering right hander walked 19 and hit seven more batters in 21.1 innings of work. His 4.22 ERA was respectable, but as the season progressed, Rizy was called on in lower leverage situations.
LSU’s pitching staff is going to be bolstered in the offseason via the transfer portal and the high school signing class. A league-worst ERA facilitates that.
Rizy is a draft eligible sophomore who could explore professional baseball this summer or find a new collegiate home.
The transfer portal officially opens on June 1.
